Spice it Up with Soda
People have been enjoying the fizz of soda water since 1767, when it was invented by Joseph Priestley, a man from Leeds. Priestley found that that when he put a bowl of water on top of a beer vat, carbon dioxide was dispersed into the water.
The soda siphon would not be invented until 1829 in France. This was after the aerosol concept was thought up in 1790 in the same country. The aerosol concept led to the invention of self-pressurized carbonated drinks.
An English immigrant called John Matthews is known as the “Father of American Soda Water”. This is because in 1832, he came up with a way to change water using carbon dioxide gas.
Using the device that Matthews invented, the soda water would go up whenever a valve was opened or pressed. This is due to the pressure inside the bottle. If you take a look inside a soda dispenser, you will find a tube that almost touches its bottom. The tube then goes out the valve and into the glass where the soda water will be poured.
Modern soda siphons are vessels that exert some pressure. They are made of glass or metal and outfitted with a valve to control the flow of the pressurized water. There is also a spout to let the water out.
You can now make your own soda water at home in order to enjoy delicacies like egg cream and fountain sodas. If you mix a lot of drinks, you may also find a soda dispenser useful in making sparkling water. You will be sure to have fresh soda water any time you want it if you make soda water.
To make homemade soda water, all you need is a rechargeable soda siphon and soda chargers. Make sure to use properly filtered tap water. This will ensure your soda water’s purity. Before making your soda water, put it in the refrigerator first in order to chill it. Pour the water into the soda siphon. Then add up to one half teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate or baking soda to the water in your soda siphon. Add carbon dioxide using the soda charger. Make sure to keep your soda water chilled it he refrigerator until you are ready to use it.
To make one liter or one quart of carbonated water, you will need one soda charger. You can usually buy boxes of 10 soda chargers from stores. If you’re worrying about the environmental impact of your soda chargers, they are made of recyclable steel. Just bring your used soda chargers to the nearest recycling center.
If you find your water too acidic, you might want to use sodium bicarbonate to neutralize it. Test acidity using a ph testing kit then adjust the amount of sodium bicarbonate. You can also add more water if you need it.
Making your own soda water is a simple and easy process. In fact, you might find yourself having so much fun that that you might soon run out of soda chargers. Make sure that you always have a supply of soda chargers on hand so that you can make soda water whenever you want.
